Corresponding to each level of EMCI™ certification, there is an examination. Engineers can apply if they have earned an American bachelor’s degree (or an international equivalent) in engineering, science, or technology and have a minimum of three years of engineering practice.
Depending on their professional experience, applicants can choose between two exams providing two levels of certification:
|
|
EMCF™ (Engineering Management Certification Fundamental): |
--- requires 3 years of experience of engineering practice |
|
|
EMCP™ (Engineering Management Certification Professional): |
--- requires 5 or more years of experience, including 2 years as an engineering manager |
To maintain certification, candidates who attain EMCF™ or EMCP™ credential must re-certify or re-take the EMCI™ certification examinations after three years.
EMCI™ Exam Preparation
While some individuals may take the examination without taking any preparatory courses, the overwhelming majority become involved in some form of examination preparation. Because the examinations measure the mastery of the application of the Body of Knowledge (EMC-BOK™), the best preparation is to understand the scope and contents of this EMC-BOK™ (the exam specifications) as well as the representation of each domain in the construction of the EMCI™ certification examinations.
The ASME Continuing Education Institute – CEI, an Authorized Knowledge Provider of EMCI™ (AKP) has created preparatory materials and courses for the examinations. Please visit its website for detailed information.
