Engineering Management The advances of science and technology have created a new profession – engineering management that is regarded as the art and science of planning, organizing, allocating resources, directing and controlling activities that have a technological component. It envelops not only project management, but also the whole process of on-going business operations in all science and technology based organizations such as system engineering, product/service development and manufacturing, as well as long run business and technological development strategies.
The unique nature of engineering management distinguishes engineering managers from managers in other areas by the fact that they possess both ability to apply engineering principles and skills in organizing and directing technical projects and people in technical jobs.
Engineering Management Certification International – EMCI™ EMCI™ is a professional multidisciplinary global credentialing program that recognizes competence of scientists, engineers, and technicians in engineering management based on their qualification, examination result, and adherence of ethics/professional code of conduct of engineers.
While qualification refers to candidate’s education background and years of engineering and/or engineering management practices, the examination result refers to candidate’s performance on the EMCI™ exam, the passage of which indicates that the candidate has mastered the minimum level of application of knowledge and skills needed to successfully perform engineering management tasks.
In order to enhance and further develop certificate holder’s competence in engineering management, EMCI™ and the Continuing Education Institute of ASME have developed rigorous procedures for re-certification and rich courses for professional development.
EMCI™ Certification is administered by American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), with the partnership with major professional organizations in U.S., such as American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), and the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers (AIME). |
