Levels of EMCI Certification and Eligibility Criteria

  • Engineering Management Certification Fundamentals  (EMCF)
If you are an early career engineer, scientist, or other technologist intent on entering engineering management on your career path, then the EMCF credential is right for you.

To qualify, you must hold a bachelor's degree or global equivalent in engineering, science, or technology. EMCF certification requires at least three years of engineering practice passage of the EMCF Exam.  For candidates without a bachelor's degree, at least two years of education in engineering, science, or technology, plus five years of engineering practice is required to be eligible to sit for the EMCF Exam.  If, however, you hold a Master's degree or global equivalent in Engineering Management and have less than three (3) years of work experience, you are eligible to sit for the EMCF.

  • Engineering Management Certification Professional (EMCP)
If you are an experienced engineering professional with management experience, then you are well suited for the EMCP credential.

To qualify, you must hold a bachelor's degree or global equivalent in engineering, science, or technology.  EMCI certification requires at least five consecutive years of engineering practice (i.e., three years of engineering practice and two years of engineering management experience) and passage of the EMCP exam.  The education requirement above can be waived if you have already obtained EMCF Certification.

Once certification is earned, EMCFs and EMCPs must maintain certification through earning professional development units (PDUs) within three years.  Failure to maintain certification requires reapplication, reexamination and remittance o the examination fee in full.

EMCI Exam Preparation

While some individuals may be comfortable taking the examination without any preparatory courses, the overwhelming majority engage in some form of examination preparation. Because the examinations measure mastery of knowledge areas comprising the EMC-BOK™,  preparation is streamlined through the EMC-BOK™ Guide, which covers each knowledge domain and serves as a framework for both of the EMCI certification examinations.

The ASME Continuing Education Institute (CEI), an Authorized Knowledge Provider (AKP) of EMCI™, has created preparatory materials and courses for the examinations.  Cllick here to visit their website for detailed information.

In addition to ASME's CEI, you should also contact one of EMCI's current AKPs worldwide for exam preparation options.
