After a candidate has successfully submitted an application, the Admission and Review Committee will review the candidate’s eligibility based on information in the application. This process will be completed within 10 – 14 business days after EMCI™’s receipt of the complete application.
All information concerning the candidate’s application review and examination will be forwarded to applicant’s preferred address. Therefore, if there is any change in applicant’s name and address after the application is submitted, EMCI™ must be notified of the changes immediately.
Name Changes
To correct minor errors in your name (e.g., incorrect middle initial, missing hyphen) as printed on your confirmation notice or Authorization Letter to Test, e-mail the correction(s) to: EMCI@asme.org before the scheduled test date. For security reasons, other kinds of name changes cannot be made online after the application has been submitted.
To change your name due to a legal name change, candidates must submit notarized documentation to EMCI™ Certification Center in New York. Please do not send original copies, as these documents will not be returned.
Address Changes
Both the Authorization Letter to Test and score report are mailed to candidates' home address unless otherwise specified. Therefore, EMCI™ should be notified immediately of mailing address changes. Candidates can do so by email to: emci@asme.org, or by fax at +1 212.591.7143.
Keep track of your ID number!
All candidates will receive a unique EMCI™ ID number in their confirmation e-mail or mail, and the Authorization Letter to Test. This ID number will be used to make changes about your contact information, such as telephone number, or mailing address. It will also become your unique ID number for any future EMCI™ certification examination as well as re-certification.
Application Audit
To maintain the integrity and to ensure the adherence to the minimum eligibility requirement, EMCI™ reserves the right to audit all candidates’ applications for both EMCF™ and the EMCP™ certification examinations. Therefore, all candidates must agree, either through a check box on the EMCI™ Certification Examination Online Registration Form or by signing the affirmation statement on the mail-in application form, that they understand that the education, engineering practice, or engineering management experience listed on their applications to determine eligibility may be audited.
During the audit, EMCI™ Office may:
- Contact the supervisors listed on the audit form to verify employment, engineering practice, or engineering management history; and/or
- Request written documentation of all positions used to initially determine eligibility at the time of application. Written documentation may be in the form of an official job description.
Candidates who fail the audit will receive a letter outlining where the deficiencies were and may be disqualified to take the examination or have their certificate revoked. In such cases, candidates will have the opportunity to appeal. However, the decision based on the outcome of an appeal is final.
