All candidates able to pay the application and examination fees with a credit card are encouraged to register and apply online using the Online Application Form. You will be required to register a user name and password before proceeding. You may not apply online if you cannot pay the application and examination fees with a credit card. To apply by mail, please follow these instructions.
An unfinished application form can be saved by pressing the “Save – Complete Later” button at the bottom of the page, and can then be retrieved later by using the applicant’s email address and applicant-created password.
Once the applicant has carefully reviewed and verified all information both in and accompanying the form, s/he must press the “Submit” button to send the application electronically. A summary page listing essential application information will be generated upon submission and should be printed or saved in a file for future reference.
Online applicants will receive an auto-generated e-mail within 24 hours. Please note that such notification only confirms successful transmission of the application and is not be construed as confirmation of eligibility. Candidates who do not receive a confirmation of receipt message within 24 hours of online application should contact the EMCI Certification Center immediately at emci@asme.org. Once an application is properly registered, the status of the application can be monitored through www.engineeringcertification.org using the applicant’s newly-created user name and password.
Online Application Checklist
- Complete the online application form.
- Include credit card information for payment. If you are unable to remit payment by credit card, you must apply by mail and enclose payment via another payment method.
- Carefully review and verify the information entered.
- Submit the EMCI Certification Examination Application Form.
- Print the summary page for your future reference.
- Receive e-mail confirmation, which will include your unique EMCI ID number.
- Mail in the proof of graduation documentation, which includes the experience verification form appropriate for your exam level, an official transcript, a copy of the diploma, and a letter from the registrar’s office of the degree-granting institution.
- Application reviewed for eligibility by the EMCI Admission and Review Committee (ARC).
- Either an Authorization Letter to Test (ALT) or notice of ineligibility letter issued (includes your unique EMCI ID number) within 10 to 14 business days of the ARC’s decision.

- Please note that the EMCI Certification program is being phased out. As such, all applicants must take the exam by June 30, 2010.
